A different kind of Labor Day for the Lawson family

All nine pounds of Jordan Patrick Lawson arrived Tuesday morning, three days late for the wedding of his cousin John Jordan and Stephanie Warburton -he never even sent a "Regrets" card! Ellie Jordan is a proud great-grandmother for the third time, and she's planning to add two more fourth generation infants in the next few months. At last report, new parents Chessie and Pat Lawson were surviving.

Except for the rudeness and tardiness of young Jordan Patrick, 10 Roberts Circle made it through the wedding reception Saturday evening -- thanks in large part to the able management of Rudy Jordan, the gourmet cooking of Laura Francis, and the quick hands of Steve Francis, who is still giving lessons on how to pour draft beer without a head. The wedding itself was at Ocean Point's Wilson Chapel, following a rehearsal dinner Friday at Cabbage.

Laura and Rudy are taking full credit for the rain-free weekend. We heard distant rumbles off in the Sheepscot, but nary a drop of rain in Bayville.

After that fit of weekend insanity whose crisis was the plunge of bride and groom off the Bayville dock into Linekin Bay, Bayville in general and 10 Roberts Circle are enjoying relative tranquility, but our nuptial neurosis continues.

Karen and Phil Roberts and the Bayville Hilton are hosting the rehearsal dinner next Friday for the marriage of their niece Gretchen Kinsey to Brent Sullivan. Two avid sailors, Gretchen and Brent met on a sailboat, got engaged on a sailboat, and would have been married on a sailboat if there was room, Karen reports. Instead, they organized the whole Shipyard Cup weekend around their Burnt Island wedding September 8 to have a dramatic backdrop for the ceremony and the photographs. No word yet on whether they'll be inspired by the new Mr. and Mrs. Jordan to literally take the plunge.

And speaking of marital madness, guess how many years Karen will have been married to Phil September 24? Didn't Karen just turn 30 earlier this summer? The arithmetic doesn't work. . . .

And speaking of general insanity, Rachel Roberts has left our spectacular late summer weather for the heat of Roanoke, Virginia, where she's starting her senior year at Roanoke College. But when northern New England turns bleak in a couple of months while Virginia is still enjoying a golden autumn, she'll have the last laugh.
